Exclusive review of Patrik-Ian Polk’s new film “The Skinny” + Information about screening locations and dates

“Patrik-Ian Polks film ‘The Skinny’ is an authentic depiction of the life of a young black GAY twenty somethings in modern American society”-TheFabFemme

Producer of the popular television shows Noahs Arc and Punks, Patrik-Ian Polk, is gearing up to release his new film “The Skinny“. A film about life, love, friendships, and the trials and tribulations of being young, black and gay in America. Polk takes us on a journey down a familiar path with a story line that’s easy to relate to and a group of actors and actresses that reminds everyone in the audience of their own personal group of friends back home. Polk does a wonderful job tying serious issues into the plot of the story along with the usual comedy and drama that surrounds any gay group of friends. Patrik-Ian Polk and ‘The Skinny’ are partnered with the Black AIDS Institute on this project and are hoping to stress the seriousness of HIV/AIDS testing within the LGBT community to viewers.

“I’ve been involved with the Black AIDS Institute since the early days of my NOAH’S ARC television series, and I’ve been addressing issues of HIV and AIDS in my work since my first film PUNKS,” Polk explains. “So it makes perfect sense to partner with them to promote their great cause and highlight the HIV awareness issues raised in my new film THE SKINNY.”

The Skinny is full of drama, suspense, SEX and emotion. The characters played by Jussie Smolett, Blake Young-Fountain, Anthony Burrell, Shanika Warren-Markland and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman had amazing on screen chemistry and seemed like they had been friends for years. The main character Mangus, played by Jussie Smolett, focused on his relationship with his new lover for the majority of the movie. Their relationship was an emotional roller coaster to say the least and in the end secrets that rocked the foundation of their trust were revealed. Shanika Warren and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman played Langston and Joey. An ADORABLE duo that reminds lesbian viewers of their favorite gay guy pal and the special relationship that they share with one another. Langstons character shed light on femme invisibility issues within the lesbian community and gave a nod to the femmes who have trouble finding love in the gay community. I thought this was AWESOME! Yay for the lesbians :-)

Characters like Sebastian (played by Blake Young-Fountain) and Kyle (played by  Anthony Burrell) were tied into more serious story lines in the movie. Sebastian was involved in some extremely serious situations and Kyle had a way of adding fuel to the fire without even realizing it. The fabulous multimedia maven B.Scott was spotted in the film along with Darryl Stephens, Jennia
Fredrique and Wilson Cruz from Noahs Arc. Punks cast member Seth Gilliam also made a cameo in the film.

Overall I found this film to be extremely entertaining, fun, full of suspense, and easy to relate to. Patrik-Ian Polk did a great job capturing the idea of what it means to be a young black GAY twenty something in today’s modern society. Even the music in the movie was fabulous and captured every emotion that was being filmed on screen. Emotions are high, life experience is gained and hearts are broken. This movie is FAB and I urge you all to check it out in a city near you! Enjoy the trailer and follow the links for more information on The Skinny and when it will premiere in a city near you!
