Danielle and I made our way to the mall to do a little shopping and spend some time together. My mind was still trying to comprehend what had just happened with her mother in law or whatever she wanted to call her. I couldnt figure out why this girl would think I was ok to bring me around her boyfriend’s mom when she knew I liked her. Or maybe she didn’t. We made small talk as we drove along the road to the mall near my house. “By the way” she said in a very diplomatic voice, “my friends are going to be meeting us at the mall. Is that cool?” “Of course” I responded. What seemed so simple to her was a very complex gesture to me. Why was this girl bringing me around her friends if we were just friends too?

Our trip to the mall was pleasant. We always got a lot of looks when we went out places together. It’s like people knew we were together and that she was the dominant one. If they only knew. Her friends were running late so we stopped in Bebe to kill time. She wasn’t nearly as interested in the feminine clothing as I was. This just made my feelings about Desiree being a lezzie even stronger. She walked behind me in the store like any typical boyfriend or stud would, suggesting garments that would accentuate my curves and bring out my hazel eyes. It was cute.

We met up with her friends who seemed just as sexually confused as she was. One of her friends that came to the mall was a baby dyke and the other one was straight. The straight girl kept commenting on how pretty I was and the other girl kept whispering with Danielle and giving me strange looks. It was very obvious they were talking about me. I stayed on my phone and updated my twitter statuses to keep my mind pre occupied. My twitter followers were just as convinced as I was that Danielle and her friend were both lesbians who hadn’t figured out they were lesbians yet. They took interest in stores like Lids and Abercrombie while me and their other friend roamed around in Victoria’s Secret and Forever 21.

We got ready to eat some Chinese food in the mall before heading to my house. Danielle and her friends informed me that there was a birthday dinner taking place next week and since Mike would be out of town I was invited. “You can be my date” Danielle said with a mischievous smile. I hugged Danielle’s friends and told them I would see them all next week at the birthday gathering. Danielle and I walked outside and got ready to head back to my car. I smiled as we walked along the sidewalk and the sun hit my face. If only we could stay together and skip work he next day.

Work was starting to bore me and the more I focused on my PR endeavors the less I wanted to serve people food. Danielle and her family were also on my mind and I couldn’t shake the feeling that I would be forced to meet her boyfriend soon. I wondered about what he looked like, what he did for a living and what she saw in him. Was I up to par with this dude? Why was she spending so much time with me and none with him? A thousand thoughts flooded my mind as I sipped a glass of red wine, smoked a joint and checked my emails from other junior publicist.

Just as I got through my second page of emails my phone lit up and Desiree’s name flashed on the screen. I took a gulp of wine and paused for a minute before answering the phone. Desiree was long winded so I had to prepare myself for whatever crazy thing she was about to tell me.

“Hey girl hey! Shit. Hang on a minute bitch. My reception is going in and out.” She paused for a minute. “Ok, I’m back. What’s tea? What you been up to? How’s the love life? Tell me everything.” I smiled and took another gulp of wine before answering her lengthy question. “I’m doing better. Work is going o but it’s starting to bore me. I have a few new interview lined up to work with celebrities from a few leading LGBT PR firms. Oh, and I went on a date, or something like that a few days ago.” Desiree gasped and proceeded to curse at me for not telling me about my date or rather lack thereof. “There isn’t a bunch to tell you asshole. The girl I met from work took me to the mall the other day. We went out to eat too and she decided to announce that she had kissed a girl before. Oh, and she took me to her house which is actually her boyfriend’s moms house. Yeah. That’s how my love life has been. In shambles much like my career. “Ah friend it’ll get better. I ant believe she brought you to her boyfriend’s house. Where the hell they do that at? You need to keep all your options open as long as you’re dealing with her so you don’t get your feelings hurt.” As much as I enjoyed my time with Danielle I wasn’t naive and I knew she was right about me not getting too attached to her. “I have a date with Danielle again next week. She asked me to be her date to a friend’s birthday dinner since her boyfriend will be out of town on a fishing trip. I’m going to go just for the hell of it. Why not.” Desiree laughed and sighed at the same time. “Just be careful girl. Be careful. You don’t need to get your heart broken again.” She was right. Too bad I was like a moth to a flame.
