Ahhhh the VMA’s. Full of buffoonery, nipple slips and a few good musicians. This years award show was nothing short of what we expected. Although the entire show was interesting there are a few specific moments that stick out in my mind. I hope you enjoy my brief review of the most noteworthy parts of this years MTV VMA award show. Enjoy the performances! Drum roll please…..

Ok. So Lady Gaga opened the show with an AMAZING DRAG KING version of her newest single You and I. Gaga hit the stage as her infamous alter ego Joe Calderone and left the crowd in complete shock after doing a FAB bit of dialogue and performing her single on the piano. She kept the audience on her toes by remaining in costume as Joe Calderone the entire night. The highlight of my night was when Gaga told Britney Spears she used to touch herself while looking at her posters on the wall in her room. PRICELESS. But that’s another story. Gaga was also spotted hanging out with Kanye West and Jay Z during the show. It looks like she gets an honorary pass as one of the boys. I live. Congrats to Gaga for being bold enough to make such a huge statement at the VMA’s.

Another highlight of the night was watching Jessie J perform (for the few minutes we got to hear her),  She has a broken leg and still managed to do her thing while sitting down on the stage. Her voice sounded amazing. Nicki Minaj did her thing at the VMA’s too. Although I wasn’t a fan of her attire (which was reminiscent of Gaga infused with The Big Comfy Couch), I applaud the fact that she won best Hip Hop video this year. Talk about girl power. She beat out all the girls in that category which is something a FAB Femme would do. She also named Lil Wayne the best rapper alive before she left the stage which caused quite a stir on twitter…. #shade

The lady of the evening seemed to be Adele. Everyone was talking about her beautiful voice and how she deserved to win basically every category she was nominated for. While she didn’t win every award she did win the award for Best Art Direction in a video which is a huge honor. She also gave a FAB performance of Someone Like You that made Jay-Z stand to his feet and give her a standing ovation. Love it! Adele deserves every wonderful thing that comes her way.

Katy Perry and Kanye West took home the award for Best Video Collaboration. The crowd looked nervous when Kanye got up to accept the award with Katie. The first comment out of Katies mouth was in reference to Kanye’s habit of interrupting people while their speaking. Yeezy kept it cool and waited until the end of the presentation to say anything off the wall. He accepted his award graciously and proceeded to give a shout out to Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes and Chris Brown for their song “Look At Me Now”. Weird and I’m thinking a little sarcastic…

Speaking of Chris Brown, his performance at this years award show was actually really good. I enjoyed his dancing and his aerial stunts. If there’s one thing Chris Brown can do its dance. Kudos to Chris for putting together a great program.

Bruno Mars performed the song Valerie as a tribute to Amy Winehouse. He was ok but I would have loved to see Gaga, Adele and Janelle Monae hit the stage together to honor her memory. Marsha would have been a good fit for the tribute as well.

In the midst of all this VMA pandemonium there were a handful of new musicians being nominated for Best New Artist. Some douchy little guy who claimed he didn’t believe in god won and a girl named Kreayshawn was nominated for the award as well but didn’t win. Turns out she’s a “bitch snatcher”. Interesting twitter bio….

Last but not least is Beyonce. Beyonce gave an extremely classy performance to her single Love On Top. Bey rocked a sequined tuxedo suit coat with flattering black tuxedo pants and a BAD ASS pair of heels. Bey showed off her baby bump after the performance was over. That’s right! She’s preggo. I have a feeling the papparazzi are going to be in super stalker mode during her pregnancy.

All in all I enjoyed this years VMA award show. I would have liked to see more of Jessie J and less of commercials but beggars can’t be choosers right? The highlight of the show for me was definitely Gaga dressing as Joe Calderone. That was priceless and I applaud her bravery and constant fight for equality within the LGBT community. Congrats Bey and Jay and congrats to Adele for her wonderful performance and VMA win.
